Warrigals an update: flourishing in semi shade

Yikes, they are like a weed!

I’ve recently been forced to re-imagine my courtyard garden due to degradation caused by heavy rain over the past 9 years. Completely demolished and started again with the placing of 30 tonnes of rock to form a large rock garden. Now the warrigal greens have chosen where they wish to grow and I’m finding they are not particularly fussy!

Four months on and the Warrigals are flourishing. The position is shaded from the hot afternoon sun of south east queensland.

My favourite thing to make is to blend them with goats cheese and spices. This works well as a side dish and also as a spread on toast. Before using them I soak them in hot water for 5 minutes – this has a dual purpose – it detaches any bugs and also deals with any oxalates (which are present in all forms of spinach I might add).
